Working from home might sound like an idea from heaven, but it is actually a lot harder than it sounds. For thousands of employees who have been asked to work remotely, this means extra challenges when try to balance the demands of work life and home life while coronavirus remains a concern.

However, since much business is done online these days, working from home has become the norm and here are five simple tips to  implement for an effective work from home set-up.

Set up a functional workspace

Not everyone has a designated home office, but it is crucial to have a private and quite space for your work. If it is possible, you can separate your work area from personal spaces and use it just for work and not for other activities.

Get the Internet Speed You Need

If you have kids, their FaceTiming and Xbox habits may slow your connection and download speeds. Moving as close as you can to your Wi-Fi router can help or you can consider switching to Ethernet. You will likely need a dongle.

Use phone apps

If your job involves making long distance and/or international calls, WhatsApp and Skype all let you call over the Internet across the globe on the cheap. And if you and the person you’re calling are on the same service, the call will be free.

Find Ways to Stay Motivated

Having a job where you can work from the comfort of your bed definitely earns you bragging rights. However, you need the self-discipline to not roll over and go back to sleep every time you feel tired. You need to be your own boss in this game.

Set a Routine for Working From Home

Assign yourself fixed hours or starting the day. Taking break and ending your day. If you don’t you will find yourself working over lunch breaks and having to stay behind on your laptop until 2am because you’ve procrastinated all day.

And, if you can squeeze in a walk around the block or a job outside before you start, that’s even better.
